CELIAC DISEASE IN SUBJECTS WITH TYPE 1 DIABETES MELLITUS AND ITS EFFECT ON GLYCEMIC CONTRO

Objective: To observe celiac disease incidence in patients with diabetes mellitus 1 and its effect on glycemic control.
 Methods: Type diabetic presenting the Sughra Diabetic clinic Benazir Bhutto Hospital from 22 August 2011 till February 2012 were included this study. Medical history, including age of patient at diagnosis diabetes, duration daily insulin requirements was taken. Subjects positive tTGAb levels had biopsy 2nd part duodenum to confirm CD according Marsh criteria histopathological examination.
 Results: The study 125 type mellitus. mean 30.08±8.9 years. 42 (33.6%) males 83 (66.4%) females. 5 (4%) diabetics disease. All both a anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies (>24 U/ml) all also changes confirming 4 stage 3 (2 3b 2 3c) histopathology. CD-positive (100%) poorly controlled whereas among CD-negative only 26 (21.6%) well diabetes; difference p = 0.242.
 However, HbA1c level significantly higher than patients; 0.015. requirement lower 0.000.
 Conclusions: increases as compared general population. Because most are asymptomatic, it is better screen all. Moreover, associated lesser poorer control.
